Today, His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of The Gambia, officially opened the 4th International Blue Economy Conference (IBEC) at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center in Bijilo.

The conference brings together stakeholders from across Africa to discuss sustainable solutions for managing marine resources while tackling the impact of human activities on our oceans and waterways.

In his keynote address, VP Jallow highlighted the immense potential of the Blue Economy to drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve livelihoodsโ€”all while protecting the health of our oceans.

“We must invest in research and innovation for sustainable fishing, ocean energy, marine biotechnology, and aquaculture,” Jallow stated. “By leveraging technology, we can protect our marine resources and ensure responsible practices across every sector.”

The conference is a powerful platform for policymakers, researchers, and leaders to collaborate on innovative strategies that balance economic prosperity with environmental sustainability.

The Gambia stands committed to a future where the Blue Economy thrivesโ€”for people, the planet, and generations to come.
