On Wednesday, 19 August 2026, the European Union, Wanep Gambia, political parties, and civil society stakeholders launched the Inter-Party Group on Conflict Analysis, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Preventive Diplomacy. Supported by the EU under the “Electoral Violence Monitoring, Analysis and Mitigation” (E-MAM) project, this initiative brings together political actors and respected community figures to strengthen local capacities in mediation, early warning, and peaceful dispute resolution.
In her opening remarks, Isatou L. Touray, Project Officer for Governance and Democratic Transition at the EU Delegation to The Gambia, highlighted: โPeaceful elections depend not only on the absence of violence, but also on our commitment to dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution. The European Union remains committed to supporting The Gambia throughout this electoral cycle. We do so in partnership, with respect, and with confidence in The Gambiaโs ability to build a peaceful, inclusive and democratic future.โ
By promoting dialogue and reinforcing peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms, the E-MAM project directly supports democratic governance and contributes to long-term stability and social cohesion across The Gambia and West Africa.
